Fancy Tail Guppies

Information on Keeping & Caring for Guppies

The fancy tail guppy is the most popular of all live bearing fish and one of the most popular freshwater aquarium fish. They are widely available in a wide range shapes and color variations. It is the various bright color patterns and fancy tails that make Fancy Guppies so popular.

Blonde-Red Tuxedo Guppy

Male Guppies are known for their long flowing brightly colored tails while female guppies usually have smaller, less colorful tails. Although they are hardy, males should not be introduced to a tank that has not yet been cycled because of their delicate tail. Guppies like to live together in groups with other guppies. They can be kept as single fish but are much livelier when kept in groups of 4 or more.

When keeping fancy tail guppies the best water conditions are a tank water temperature between 72 and 79 Fahrenheit with a pH range of 5.5 to 8.5 and a water hardness of between 10 to 30 dGH. Guppies are very hardy and can tolerate variations in water conditions.

Rainbow Guppy

Guppies are social fish and great additions to community tanks. They will mix well with other guppies, live bearers and peaceful fish that are similar in size.
